Get ready to be intoxicated with contemporary dance in Toxic this Sunday
|
Swingers Dance Studio, affiliated with the New York-based Broadway Dance Centre is presenting a commercial, classic and contemporary dance concert titled “Toxic”, with MetroPlus as their media partner.
The event will see 30 trained professional dancers, instructors and choreographers from all the Swingers centres including New York and Dubai.
“Toxic” will have interesting sequences including “High Heels” featuring Espaniol, modern rumba presented with the elegant stylish look of Spain in a glamorous sequence inside a basket ball stadium, “Black Friday” based on the underground Church of Britain. “Toxic” will be staged on February 10, 7.30 p.m. at St. John’s Auditorium.
Started by B.R. Prasanna Kumar in 1998, The Swingers teaches salsa, hip hop, Latin and other forms of dance. Prasanna started his studio in Chennai and now has studios in Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Dubai, New York and London. “In Bangalore itself we have 400 students,” he says. “The training is not dull and drab. We get instructors from around the world and those serious about pursuing a dance career are also sent abroad for training,” adds Prasanna, who then goes on to explain what “Toxic” is all about.
“The production will have six to seven pieces and each will have a different set. It’s going to be a very grand presentation. People generally think that such productions are slow and boring, and ‘Toxic’ is going to break that notion,” explains Prasanna.
Prasanna is a BFA graduate from New York and also has worked in some Broadway productions as a dancer and a choreographer.
“Because of my work exposure, I decided on organising this fest,” he says.
“Toxic” is a one hour and 45 minute show and the tickets, priced at Rs. 150 and Rs. 200 are available at all Landmark outlets, Beanstalk cafes, Axis bookstore and US Pizza outlets. For details call 25203900/77.
