Dog show
The Coimbatore Kennel Club is conducting its 37th and 38th All-India Championship Dog Show on Sunday at SNR College of Arts and Science, off Avanashi Road.
The dogs will be judged by Rajendra M Salvi of Vadodara and Mel Bungey of Australia.
This is your chance to see 320 dogs from all over India in action. Rare breeds such as Bichon Frise, Kerry Blue Terrier, Shih Tzu, Yorkshire Terrier and toy poodles are the main attractions at the show.
Also taking part in the show will be the sniffer dogs of the Tamil Nadu Police Dog Squad.
Stalls put up at the venue will deal with dog food and accessories.
Film screening
Konangal Film Society is screening Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket this Sunday. Stanley Kubrick directed a number of highly acclaimed and sometimes controversial films. Kubrick was noted for the scrupulous care with which
he chose his subjects, his slow method of working and the variety of genres in his movies. He was also a recluse when it came to his personal life. The film made in 1987 is an epic on the Vietnam war. The final march, comprising of faceless silhouettes, is as democratic a gesture as an artiste can give us. Some of Kubrick’s masterpieces include Lolita (1962), Dr. Strangelove (1964), 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), The Shining (1980), Full Metal Jacket (1987) and Eyes Wide Shut (1999).
