Fit to fight

Launch Contours Express opens its first gym in the Capital

Delhi women have a lot of hard work to do. As per the National Family Health Survey, the Capital has the third highest number of overweight women in India. What with the demands of home and work, women find themselves running for deadlines more oft en than jogging for their health. Still there are many ways to lose weight, and hitting a well equipped gym is definitely one way to get fit.

But if the idea of going to a unisex gym doesn’t appeal, Contours Express is here for you. Established in 28 countries and 70 locations, it is one of the world’s leading only-women gyms and recently opened its first gym in North India.

Located in New Delhi’s Rajouri Garden, the gym has all the necessary equipment meant for women. Says T. Rose, the main trainer from the U.S., “Most gyms are designed for men and make some adjustments to accommodate women. This equipment doesn’t work well for a woman’s body. All the equipment in our gym here is designed according to the needs of a woman’s body. Females feel more comfortable and free while exercising in a women-only gym. We pay attention to the kind of workout and the attendance of the customer. One just needs to spare 30 minutes per day according to our 30-minute express workout programme. It’s affordable and easy to execute.”

The mantra

Dietician Veena explains the thought behind Contours’s mantra of ‘eat more, lose more’. “We do a fitness analysis followed by a body composition analysis. Based on this we chalk out a fitness regime. Customers having high fat content are recommended a low fat plan, whereas people with less muscle and bone density are suggested a high protein diet. These tailor-made diet plans are focussed on reducing extra fats without reducing the muscle or bone density,” she explains. The gym also has massage and spa facilities. “We offer three packages — quarterly, half-yearly and yearly. One trainer is always available with every customer. We also have five physiotherapists,” says Samita, trainer.

Aarti Mehra, Delhi Mayor, registered her presence as the chief guest, while the famous Kathak duo Nalini and Kamalini were the guests of honour.
