Kalachuvadu conducts a contest for filmmakers and film students

Kalachuvadu, a literary journal in Tamil engaged in a dialogue on diverse themes such as environment, socio political issues, cultural expressions and literature, invites filmmakers and film students to make/submit films based on the works or life of any one of the following personalities not exceeding 30 minutes (and not less than 15 minutes) — Ayothidasar Bharathy, Bharathidasan, Pudumaipithan, Jayakanthan, Sundara Ramasamy, Atmanaam Adimoolam, Ambai, Che Ramanujam and Purisai Sambandhan.

While the entries will be viewed for a general selection for screening by a committee of artists and writers, the jury for the final selection of three prize winning entries comprises Hariharan, filmmaker and Head, Prasad Film Academy, Sashi Kumar, filmmaker, Media Expert and Head, Asian College of Journalism, and Chezhiyan, cinematographer.

All the films selected by the committee will be screened at different venues across Tamil Nadu through different forums after the first screening at the Kalachuvadu 100 festival in April 2008. All the filmmakers of the selected films will get a chance to attend a three-day professional workshop conducted by experts at the Prasad Film Academy. A special prize awaits each one of the three entries selected by the jury.

The films could be made in any format but the submission for selection should be in the form of 2 DVD copies. If the spoken language in the film is English, the film should be subtitled in Tamil. Registration closes on March 10 and the deadline for submission of DVDs is April 1.

Details regarding the personality chosen, the format, and the person/team making the film should be sent for registration.

Entries should be sent to Kalachuvadu, Old No. 216, Triplicane High Road, Chennai 600005.
