Car and bike questions? We have the answers

I want to buy a Chevrolet vehicle but am unsure which one I should go in for. Shall I buy the Spark or the U-VA?

Srinath

If you want a car that’s easy to park and drive and a car which is mostly going to be used in the city, we would suggest the Spark. The U-VA is bigger than the Spark, so we would suggest the U-VA if you are planning to travel on the highway as well.

I drive a Tata Indica DL 2000 model. I want to buy a new diesel sedan and my budget is Rs 5-7 lakh. I will use the car for 25km each day within the city. My priorities are mileage, low maintenance costs, good visibility at the front and rear and a comfortable driver’s seat. I am 55 years old and 5.5” tall. Please give me at least two options.

V C Gnanaraj

At your kind of mileage, you could also buy a petrol. Unfortunately, there isn’t much choice in the price bracket mentioned by you apart from the Indigo and the Logan. We suggest you go for the Logan. It may have boxy looks, but it is quite a capable car and fuel efficient as well. If you opt to buy a petrol, then you could look at the Aveo or the SX4 or even the Maruti Swift Sedan which is slated to hit the markets soon.

I want to buy a new car and my budget is between Rs 3.5-5 lakh. I have shortlisted the Chevy Aveo U-VA, Hyundai i10, Swift and Wagon R. I will drive within the city and for 70km a week. I want a vehicle that is fuel efficient, comfortable, safe and one that has low maintenance costs. How much does the Chevy Aveo U-VA cost?

Palvai Sujeeth

Of the choices given, we would suggest the Swift; it is fuel efficient, offers decent comfort and the ZXi version comes with airbags and ABS as well. The U-VA starts at Rs 4.7 lakh for the base to Rs 5.7 lakh for the fully loaded version.

I am thinking of buying a new car and my budget is Rs 6 lakh. I will use it for about 500km per month in the city and another 500 km per month on the highway. My priorities are fuel efficiency, maintenance and comfort. Please suggest a suitable option. With regard to diesel cars; is it true that it is expensive to maintain a diesel car? I have been advised by friends to buy the Swift diesel or the Skoda Fabia diesel. Are these good suggestions?

Sakunthala Balu

The Swift Diesel is an excellent choice, its fuel efficient, has a punchy engine. Modern day diesels aren’t very expensive to maintain. Yes, the parts are slightly more expensive than their petrol counterparts, but it is compensated by the savings in fuel costs. The Fabia is a premium hatchback, the diesel is efficient, but being a three cylinder, it is noisy. It isn’t cheap to buy either. We would suggest you stick with the Swift Diesel.

I want to buy a mid-size car and have short-listed the Chevrolet Aveo U-VA and the Maruti Swift. My budget is between Rs 4 -5.4 lakh. I want a vehicle that is fuel efficient, has low maintenance costs, has reasonably priced spare parts, is safe and comfortable.

Faiyazuddin S

The Swift fits your requirements well. It is fuel efficient and maintenance isn’t a problem either. If possible go for the ZXi version. The U-VA is a good car as well, it has more space than the Swift, but as an overall package, the Maruti is just better.
