Significant

Valentine’ Day celebrated between loved ones in the name of St. Valentine during February has lots of significance. In ancient Rome, February was the official beginning of spring and was considered a time for purification. The first greeting card was sent by St. Valentine to himself while he was in prison (around 270 AD). The oldest Valentine’s card is on display at the British Museum. Valentine’a Day is the second largest card sending holiday in western countries next only to Christmas. Initially, true love was shared by handwritten messages and then only came the Valentine cards. In any case, Valentine’s Day is much more than sharing printed cards and implies sharing of affection and love.

S.Raghavan,

Tiruchi-15.
