A slap
Valentine’s Day is one more slap on the face of India which claims that women are safe here. Perhaps, it is time that every woman has to carry a can of pepper spray or a weapon, since those who are assigned to protect us have failed yet again. One should fight the indecency that is being forced on people by cinema and other entertainment media. The present generation has lost touch with the roots of our culture and basic spirituality. Both the print and visual media are active partners in this dirty game. Moral education should be restored in school curriculum and media should actively discourage aping western culture. For years, I have been reading and watching news on how the Shiv Sainiks try to protect our culture by breaking shops selling Valentines Day cards etc. My question to them is, “Where are you ‘sainiks’ when some of the harassed needy women actually could use your help?” Is it not in the culture to protect women from atrocities? Where are you now, self proclaimed culture police of Valentine’s Day ?
P. DAVID,
Tiruchi.
