Celebrating Thai one as Pongal festival has been our tradition for years long. On this day, cattle and farmers, who are the ‘backbone of a nation,’ are honoured. The festival is unique to remember the farmers, without whom we cannot sustain in the world. I do not think whether the uniqueness would be maintained if Pongal and New Year are celebrated on the same day. If New Year and Pongal are celebrated on different days, importance will be given to them separately. Celebrating both on the same day should not diminish their glory.
