Breath of joy

Living in the present is a self-discipline achieved through deep breathing

TAKE A DEEP BREATH Dispel negative thoughts

Many dwell in the past; they think, brood and talk about their past experiences, not realising, it is an unhealthy habit that disturbs the mind and the body. When you constantly think of unpleasant events of the past, you make your present unpleasant too. Old, unpleasant thoughts are impurities in the mind; they create tensions and worries that destroy your inner peace.

Many people find that their mind is their biggest problem. It is restless and constantly disturbed by various thoughts. These are so powerful that they are difficult to control and remove. The negative thoughts get planted in the subconscious mind and frequently surface in the conscious mind, as they are allowed to germinate and grow. Such a mind is undisciplined and can be a source for many problems.

When the past has passed from your life, why do you carry that baggage with you? This baggage burdens your mind with tensions; there is anger, confusion, poor perception, destructive emotions, disappointment and unhappiness.

Cleanses the mind

Living in the present is a yogic approach to life, a fantastic self-discipline achieved through deep breathing. Breathing cleanses your mind of negativity, removes the disturbing thoughts, improves concentration and energy levels and connects your mind and body. There is a strong connection between breathing and mental states. If the mind is happy, the breathing is smooth and relaxed. If the mind is disturbed, the breathing is also disturbed.

Breathing keeps you awake and alert and makes you enjoy everything you do ‘now.’ You experience peace of mind, without being influenced by anger fear, guilt, or worry.

Living in the present is being conscious of your thoughts, feelings and actions without colouring them with past experiences. Your mind works efficiently, you make fewer mistakes, appreciate everything around, make more friends and life becomes worth living.

Positive outlook

Yoga science teaches you that everyday is special and you have to live each day with freshness and joy. Keep smiling all the time, look into the positive aspects of everything, no matter how stressful or unpleasant they may be. Uplift yourself; do not let yourself down to sorrow and suffering.

When you live in the present, you will make things go right in your life. There is calmness of mind, sharpness of vision, positive thinking and a deep sense of harmony. There is no negativity, no enemies; instead, more friends. You will have the right flow of energy to deal with difficult situations with absolute ease. You can face all the transitions in life with the right strength without anxiety and fear. There is a sense of achievement and fulfilment; “happiness ‘now’ and also in the future.”
