Gunidas Sangeet Sammelan on February 18

The Gunidas Sangeet Sammelan will be held in the city on February 18, 6.30 p.m. at the Kamaraj auditorium. Presented by Citi for the 17th consecutive year, be take place at the Kamaraj Auditorium. It will provide an opportunity to music buffs to list en to a live concert featuring tabla maestro, Ustad Zakir Hussain. Renowned vocalist M. Venkatesh Kumar will also perform at event. Tickets are available at the venue.

The Gunidas Sangeet Sammelan was first held in 1977 in Mumbai by the legendary Hindustani classical vocalist, the late Pt. C. R. Vyas, in memory of the doyen of the Agra Gharana, the late Pt. Jagganathbuwa Purohit under the aegis of the Maharashtra Lalit Kala Nidhi (MLKN). Over the years, this prestigious annual festival held across four cities - Mumbai, Kolkata, New Delhi and Chennai.

Featuring some of the finest ever live performances by maestros of Indian classical music, the Sammelan has established a rich legacy over 31 years. Commenting on it, Pt. Satish Vyas, santoor maestro and organiser of the event, said, “There’s a great sense of achievement in reaching this milestone. Today, the sammelan is one of those rare events that brings together exponents of Indian classical music - both vocal and instrumental - from various gharanas on the same platform.”
