The Black and White era of Hindi cinema revisited on February 24

Backstage presents “Black and White – The Golden Era of Hindi Cinema” – a collage of performances on screen and stage on February 24, 7 p.m. at The Music Academy. Part of the proceeds will go in support of “My School Sat ya Surabhi” at Attuvampatti in Tamil Nadu.

Tickets for the show, priced at Rs.500/Rs.300, are available at Landmark and Odyssey. The dress code for the evening is black and white.

“Black and White” is a story of an era of two colours. The golden era of Hindi cinema – which “painted” the screen with the best of poetry and music and an era when life was simple and there was contentment in small things. The show travels through the era of cinema from 1945 to 1968. Aided by mega screen audiovisuals, the performers on stage blend with the celluloid, making music come alive. The journey visits stalwarts of the era such as K. L. Saigal, Bimal Roy, V. Shnataram and Guru Dutt. It also touches stars such as Dev Anand, Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Madhubala, Meena Kumari and Shammi Kapoor. The performance touches on the finer aspects of the era through the medium of music, pictures, movie clips, anecdotes and trivia. “Black and White” is an attempt to give a third dimension to the celluloid screen, to get nostalgic and return to moments which we all want to relive. The show is conceived and directed by Milind Oak. The script and the music are by Pravin Joshi and the narration by Rahul Solapurkar. The singers are Hrishikesh Ranade, Vibhavari Apte-Joshi, Jitendra Abhyankar and Swarada Gokhale.
