Danseuse as Devi

Arjuna’s exhibition of transformative art

Geeta Chandran

Anyone who has seen Bharatanatyam dancer Geeta Chandran and also the Devi paintings of artist Arjuna would have noticed the unmistakeable resemblance between Geeta and the painted Lakshmi, Saraswati and Kali figures. Not surprising, since she was his inspiration for the series. Now the model and the modelled get together this week as Arjuna’s paintings, serigraphs and sculptures go on display at Lalit Kala Galleries from February 22. Described as an exhibition of transformative art, the show features, on the opening evening, a short dance presentation by Geeta on Shiva and Devi in Art and Dance.

The performance at 7 p.m. will be followed by an interactive dialogue led by Geeta and Arjuna on ‘Creativity and Transformation’.
