Blending tastes

Working on the philosophy that “all good things come to those who wait”, Whyte & Mackay launched three brands characterised by their long maturation period at Hotel Park, New Delhi, recently. The first, White & Mackay blended Sc otch Whisky, offers three variants: The Thirteen (matured for 13 years), Old Luxury (a 19-year-old brew) and the 22-year-old distillation named Supreme. The second brand, Jura Island Single Malt, includes Jura 10-year-old, Jura Superstition and Jura 16-year-old. The third range launched was The Dalmore Single Highland Malt. Single malt is made by distillations from a single producer at a single site, whereas mixed distillation from multiple producers creates a blend. An extra year of maturation makes this one of the smoothest scotch whiskies in the world. Thirty-five single malts are “married” in sherry butts for several months. The vatted malt is then mixed with six different grain whiskies and returned to another set of sherry butts to mature. This process called “double marriage” guarantees a smooth, mellow and distinctive character but more importantly it ensures consistency.

In India, Whyte & Mackay is available in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Goa, Banglore and Kolkata.
