A Visual treat At Artography’08
The association of the department of visual communication at the Bishop Appasamy College of Arts and Science has a catchy name — Eyedea. And it recently held an inter-college art and photography exhibition and seminar, that was inaugurated by e
ditor of Nakeeran Magazine, Gopal.
He also conducted a seminar for visual communication students. The exhibition had works of students as well as the public that had been invited to take part.
With photography becoming an integral part of journalism, it was interesting to see how the students perceived the world around them.
They had to submit their photographic entries under any of the three categories — nature, emotion and fashion. Some of the entries really stood out.
Notable among them were those of the ordinary man as he went about his daily business of leading a difficult life. While some of the photographs did seem rather contrived and stiff, there were those that had managed to capture reality as it really was.
Faces caught unawares by the camera wordlessly spoke of the anxiety, despair, worries and joys of everyday life.
Then, there were those photographs that were not pretty, but were tales that had to be told — a picture of a monkey hit by some vehicle and left to die.
The nature photographs were pretty, with some of them being shot at night.
There were also macro-photographs of flowers and insects.
The Art part of the exhibition showed off the talents of the students.
Some of them had preferred to do still life, while others had attempted portraits and scenery. One particular black and white sketch of just the feet of Jesus nailed together was moving.
As a part of the exhibition, there was also a studio set up where visitors could have their pictures taken!
