Noon soaps
The slot between 11.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. on Tamil television channel is regarded as prime time by advertisers, as housewives and elderly couples love to watch soaps, prior to their post-lunch siesta.
According to the Kollywood trade, in the last two years, noon show collections in cinemas have dropped as women have started watching the serials on channels that come free. Annamalai Films, which produced so many hit Tamil films, has for the first time entered the television scenario with its mega serial “Magarasi” on Kalaignar TV at 12.30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
It is the story of a girl who aspires to come up in life contrary to the wishes of her parents who want her to be married. Helpless, she runs away from home only to be rescued by a philanthropist who owns a chain of business enterprises. The heroine gets involved with the business activities of her mentor, and the company flourishes. How she tackles her mentor’s sons and her own family members form the rest of the plot. Pushpalata plays the heroine, while ‘Moghamul’ Abishek plays her mentor.
