Cool solutions for hot summer
Be cautious
There are many ways to chill out this summer. Watermelon, tender coconut, fruit juices and cool drinks are all good remedies for thirst. While chilling up people must also be concerned about health issues. Consuming unhygienic drinks or food prepared along road side definitely has an effect on health.
D.Prashanth,
Madurai.
Healthier
Summer can be made healthier and happier by taking a lot of fresh fruits and eight glasses of pure water. Children and elderly people should take additional care and not wander about in the sun. Outbreak of diseases can be avoided with prior vaccination. Prevention is better than cure, and it is entirely in our hands to make this summer, a cooler one.

Plan ahead
Using your creative instincts, evolve your plans for the long summer months ahead. Plan a vacation in advance. A trip to a hill station will be ideal. If you wish to stay back at home, remember to always keep the place cool by regularly cleaning the floor with water. Drink plenty of water. Eat vegetables and lots of fresh fruits. Wear light coloured dresses. Take care of your skin and health. Indulge in as many hobbies as you can. It is during the long summer vacation that you can learn many new things and also socialise with friends. Do not involve in activities which are likely to bog you down.

Take care
Summer is approaching and we all should take extra measures to keep ourselves healthy. Instead of chilled mango drinks, we should drink 12 glasses of water per day. Instead of vegetable sandwiches, we should consume more butter milk, fenugreek water and tender coconut.

Madurai.
Remedies
As the hot summer causes throat and stomach pain, the remedies are soaking tulsi in pot full of water for one hour before drinking it.
Soaking Venthayam in pot full of water for two hours and adding some more of it to this water helps in reducing body heat and is of good medicinal use for stomach pain. Drinks and diets like this should be made part of our usual and routine food habit.
R.Amarnath,
Madurai.
Twin problem
Inadequate supply of power and water in summer causes annoyance and hardship to people. The Government should solve this major twin problem. Plenty of trees should be planted on either side of the roads to protect people from heat waves. The city needs more parks with shade giving trees to enable families spend their leisure time together in a cool green environment.
