Responsibility

Valentine’s Day is celebrated in memory of a person who fought against his king to uphold love and kindness. Love is a powerful emotion which can be extended to anyone including animals. But, the media (mostly visual) is commercially exploiting a particular channel of love, which is not correct. It will be counter productive. Media has a social responsibility in channelising the youth in the right direction. February 4 is declared as "Cancer Day" by the WHO. But media did not give as much importance to this day, because it cannot be commercially exploited or sensationalised. Anyhow, we cannot restrict love to one particular day. If our motto is to love all and love for ever, there is no need for Valentine’s Day

P.K. RAMAN,

Tiruchi - 21.
