Toy soldiers

Toy Soldiers is the name given to a set of toy soldiers, which are cast in brass. They are held in a variety of collections in England and India.

The largest collections are held by the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Madras Museum in India.

These soldiers are grouped together because of consistency of style, manufacture, and material.

Toy soldiers seem to have come to Britain via India, during or shortly after the Napoleonic Wars. The oldest set of toy soldiers in Britain is the Vizagapatam Toy Soldiers.

The toy soldiers in Ashmolean Museum are called as Vizagapatam Toy Soldiers, as one of the soldiers has the name Vizagapatam etched on it along with the date 1795.

Inception of the Engineering College

To meet the heavy demands at various public and private sector industries, thanks to the Five-Year plans after independence, the then Chief Minister of the State Dr. Bezawada Gopal Reddy, made an urgent request to the then Vice-chancellor of Andhra U niversity Dr. V.S. Krishna to start an engineering college in the university campus.

As desired, a separate department for engineering was instituted in 1955 with Prof. K.R. Rao as its first principal and Prof. D.S. Rao as the first head of the department.

The college started functioning with three departments: civil, electrical and mechanical.

All the three departments were temporarily located in T.L.N. Sabha hall and in two improvised sheds in the south campus. (Plus People)
