Step in and you are greeted by Prabhat Saranga, he of the funky hair, the bling, the ready smile and the super-efficient scissors. The Sri Lankan stylist, who has styled Abhishek Bachchan’s hair in “Yuva” and “Run” has trained with the best including Pivot Point, the Toni and Guy chain in Malaysia and also an advanced course in hair cutting at Vidal Sassoon in London.

Salon Nayana, was founded in Sri Lanka by Nayana Karunaratne in 1980 and has since grown into a multinational brand. In Bangalore, the salon started off in Koramangala and now has a branch in Indiranagar as well.

The idea according to Prabhat is to have a place where “people can relax. The ambience is very laid back.” A look at the services on offer and you are convinced that this is a place to go to lay down your weary tune and enjoy an aroma or a thalgo facial or have your pinkie buffed to a sparkly shine or treat your tired feet to an invigorating pedicure. For brides, there are separate packages that include hair and make up with a sari drape thrown in as well — how cool is that now!

But the USP of the salon is surely the pampering our crowning glory is in for. Prabhat’s Classic Collection line of cuts is all about working with “the natural texture and movement of the hair.” And Prabhat says the magic words to us time-deprived souls when he says “you will never have to set it.”

The proof of the pudding is surely in eating it. And watching Prabhat transform hair from the straight and narrow to a wild, uber chic avatar of jagged edges and funky angles after a frenzy of delicate snipping was nothing short of miraculous. While the salon offers an array of hair solutions including ironing, crimping, perms and bright, beautiful streaks apart from the fascinatingly named hair spa with all international branded products, Prabhat says they only do treatments that will suit the person.

“We check how the hair moves and cut with the movement. We follow the basic ground rules — go with round curls for a square face and a square cut for a round face. We do not suggest unnecessary procedures.”
