The Executive Lunch at Options is value for money

For weight watchers The salad counter

We were in a bit of a rush as we had a movie to catch. Famished, we decided to try out the newly launched Executive Lunch at Options, Classic Avenue.

The bearer led us to a table. He said the soups for the day were Seafood Chowder and Sweet Corn Spinach. As us friends were out and out seafood enthusiasts, the choice was obvious.

Fresh oven breads

A basket of fresh oven breads went well with the thick hot steaming soup garnished with coriander. I especially enjoyed the bread stick which had a faint taste of garlic. My friends, however, enjoyed the soft bread rolls spread with butter as they sang ‘utterly butterly delicious.’

We then headed to the buffet counter. A modest spread awaited us. I heaped my plate with some Malabari Chicken Salad. Shreds of spicy chicken with a dash of lime, it made a great starter.

A live food counter served hot ‘lacy’ appams. They went well with the chunky pieces of lightly seasoned seer fish in the Fish Moilee. With a choice of plain rice and Lemon rice, I went for the Lemon rice. The hot chilly cauliflower made a great side dish. Naans were served at our table. The Panner Hara Pyaz and Dal Reshmi made excellent gravy dishes for the Naans.

It was the dessert counter, however, that really caught our attention. Chum Chum, Fresh Fruit Salad, Ice Cream, Honey Chocolate Mousse, Brownie and Chocolate tart… we didn’t know where to begin. The Honey Chocolate Mousse was divine. Not for weight watchers, the sinfully, ‘rich with chocolate’ mousse melts in your mouth. Being a bitter chocolate fan, the chocolate filling in the tart had me going for seconds and thirds. A friend of mine topped her cashew nut chocolate brownie with some thick chocolate sauce while another dipped her slices of fresh fruit in some custard sauce. Needless to say, they polished their plates with gusto.

The buffet is targeted mostly at business class folk who are often short for time. It comes as a welcome break from the thali meals available at most restaurants during lunch hour.

According to Deepu, sales manager, Classic Avenue, the dishes are changed on a daily basis. Vegetarians have it good as there is a choice of green salads and six vegetarian side dishes to choose from. Non-vegetarians have fish and chicken and either beef or mutton to pick from. There are five desserts and a flavoured rice daily.

Priced at Rs.150 plus taxes for each person, the buffet is value for money. Lunch time is from 12 noon to 3.30 p.m.
