Four Frames

Tabu sizzles

Telugu director Chandra Siddardh, who has made offbeat films such as "Aa Naluguru" and "Appudappudu", is back with "Idhee Sangati", which is adapted from a novel "Mera Bharat Mahan" written by K N Y Patanjali. The highlight of "Idhee Sangati" is the appearance of one of the finest actors in India, Tabu, in the heroine's role. The film takes a satirical look at the system and exposes the rot that has set in it. Last week, Tabu had a lot to cheer about when she won her sixth Filmfare award for her performance in "Cheeni Kum". Says Tabu: "I am really excited about being part of `Idhee Sangathi'. The character I play is close to my heart. I have a strong feeling that this is going to be one of the most memorable performances of my career. Popular Telugu television anchor Jhansi has dubbed for me."

Jodhaa Akbar” in Tamil

Ashutosh Gowarikar’s “Jodhaa Akbar” is turning out to be a huge hit worldwide. In the first four days of its release, it collected nearly Rs. 39 crore, and has the potential to become a super hit as it has no major competitor till A pril. In Tamil Nadu, it has netted an amazing Rs. 65 lakh from seven screens in 10 days, a feat indeed for a Hindi film which runs for nearly 3 hours and 30 minutes! Now the producers, UTV, who had earlier planned to dub the film into Tamil, are going in for a slicker version of “Jodhaa Akbar" in Tamil and releasing it on Mahasivarathri Day (March 6) all over the State.

Murder mystery

Noted Malayalam director Jayaraj is making his debut in Tamil with "Sila Naerangalil", a murder mystery set in two different eras, the Sixties and the present time. The film marks the launch of Vincent Asokan as hero with Navya Nair, Vineeth, Raghuvaran and Sriman in supporting roles. The film, edited by Sreekar Prasad, carries a "U" certificate. Srikanth Deva's music is one of the highlights of the film. Vairamuthu has penned the lyrics. Veteran singer P. Suseela has rendered a song with T.M. Soundarajan's son TMS Balraj. There is also a peppy number by Suchitra. "Sila Naerangalil" is produced by four techies based in the U.S., and distributed by Pyramid Saimira.

Nayanthara races ahead

Nayanthara is racing ahead of other heroines in Kollywood to the number one slot. Her “Yaaradi Nee Mohini” is ready for release. “Sathyam” with Vishal will be her big summer release and she will start work on “Kuselan 221;, with Rajnikant, by mid-March. And now she has signed up for “Aegan”, Ayngaran International’s new film to be directed by ace choreographer Raju Sundaram. Ajit and Nayanthara as a team clicked in “Billa”, and now they come together as a romantic pair for the first time. “Aegan” will have music by Yuvan Shankar Raja and the cast also has Suhasini Maniratnam, Jayaram, Navdeep Suman and Nassar.
