Not necessary

The practice of celebrating Annual Day by schools is not at all necessary and desirable as it involves extravagant spending and pomp. Any educational institution can make a mark only by producing good academic results and bright students. But, nowadays, schools vie with one another in enacting a virtual tamasha touted as Annual Day. Besides, the schools turn the students cinema crazy as events are mostly oriented towards the tinsel world, which is already casting a shadow on the young generation. What is all the more saddening is the fact that in some schools students are made to collect donations for the Annual Day function. The huge amount spent in such worthless ventures is avoidable if we think of the numerous village schools that lack even basic facilities. It is time schools spending lavishly on annual days contemplated about helping their less fortunate brethren in the countryside.
