A visionary’s world

Tribute ‘Uniting People – Jean Monet’ is an exhibition on European Union and the work of Jean Monnet

Uniting People – Jean Monet,’ an exhibition on the life and action of Jean Monnet, will be on at Alliance Française de Trivandrum from March 6 to 22. T.P.Sreenivasan, former Ambassador, will inaugurate the exhibition at 10 a.m. on March 6. This will be followed by a brief lecture by Sreenivasan on the topic ‘European Union and India.’

The exhibition is being organised by Alliance Française de Trivandrum in association with the French Embassy in India and Delegation of the European Commission in India.

Conference

A roundtable conference on several topics on European Union and India will be held in the afternoon. Students of Department of Political Science and Department of Communication and Journalism, Kerala University, will participate in the programme.

The exhibition is open to all from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Prepared by the French Pavillon in Auroville, the exhibition throws light on Jean Monnet.

It was his determination and enlightened action that led Germany and France to start afresh a relationship based on collaboration and integration – and this hardly five years after the end of the Second World War. Monnet was not alone in this initiative, yet there is no doubt that his role behind the scene was absolutely crucial.

Monnet was an unusual personality. The entity that he contributed to create, Europe, is itself so unusual that it has been described as “an un-identified political object,” which one cannot describe in a precise manner. His attempt was to deal with the future. Contact phone: 2320666/ 6578808
