Being Roma

Riding the wave of success Roma

Roma is a busy girl these days. Riding the wave of success following the youth-centred film ‘Chocolate,’ a slew of promotional appearances and advertisement shoots have kept the bubbly starlet occupied.

In town as chief guest for the grand finale of the reality show Super Dancer Junior on the channel Amrita TV, Roma also danced at the event. Barely an hour after arriving from Chennai, she was rehearsing to the tune of a popular Hindi number. Taking a breather for a chat, the ‘Minnalazhagae’ girl is more than thrilled as she talks about the talented young competitors.

“They are brilliant performers. Imagine what mature artistes they’ll be when they are adults?” she muses. She has appeared on the show before as a guest judge. “I’ve observed a healthy competition among the participants. They have the opportunity that we didn’t have when we were kids. Reality shows help them mature,” she says, adding that she watches a few of them herself. Meanwhile, Roma has signed a film by director Kamal, and ‘Shakespeare,’ by debutant director duo Shafi and Shaju.

“‘Shakespeare’ is a heroine-oriented film where I won’t be playing a character like my previous ones. The rest you’ll see for yourself. I won’t reveal the details,” she laughs.

When she’s not acting she loves to drive around the city in her Ford Fiesta. “Roma also likes listening to music, watching movies, going to temples with family, hanging out with cousins..,” she reels off as she talks in the third person.

Privacy

“Chennai is the place where I can help my mum buy vegetables at the store. Kerala is my workplace. I value my privacy which is why I haven’t signed any Tamil films. I don’t want to lose it unless an irresistible script comes along,” she quips.

Mention Bollywood and she says “Shahrukh Kh-a-a-an! Who doesn’t want to make it to Bollywood?’ she asks, quickly returning to being the King-Khan-crazy girl-next-door. “Right now, I am just going with the flow. I choose a film my heart tells me to choose. ‘Chocolate’ was one such film! I go by intuition,” smiles the Virgoan who seems to be sweeter than chocolate herself.
