Arduous ride
Before the construction of the present National Highway No. 5, the VVIPs visiting city had to undergo an arduous ride from the airport to the Circuit House. The route was circuitous and the convoy had to pass through various junctions to reach the de
stination. The traffic would be held up at various places for security measures. The convoy had to pass through the NAD Kotha Road Junction, 104 area, Marripalem and Kancharapalem Mettu before taking a turn to reach the Rail Club road via Thatchetlapalem and New Colony Junction. The convoy would then reach the Circuit House via Aseelmetta Junction. After the construction of the NH5 the route has become much shorter and comfortable. (Contributed by B.V. Ramamurty)
Rani’s gesture
Rani Chandramani Devi was known for her philanthropic ideas. With a thought for doing something for the physically challenged, she donated her guesthouse in China Waltair for converting it to a hospital. The hospital was started in 1965 with 30 beds
under private management. In 1967 it was taken over by the AP Government.
