Activity never ceases at Pragati Maidan. After Auto Expo and Book Fair, it is time for Mobile Expo, the four-day mobile phone bonanza concluding this Monday. Inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Delhi, Shiela Dixit, the Mobile Asia Expo could not hav
e come at a better time with everybody, ranging from doctors and multinational professionals to local rickshaw-wallah and vendors carrying a mobile in Delhi.
Mobile phones are no more a tool for just making and receiving calls. They are now a status symbol and a fashion statement. Cell-phones are getting new technology day by day and confusing the consumers, with all the facilities they claim to provide. At present phones are having features like camera, FM Radio, Internet TV, and MP3, etc. Navigation is the latest feather added. Time to clear some of the cobwebs.
Big names
Biggies like Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and LG are present, displaying their might.
Samsung unveiled the Soul U 900 with a 5 mega pixel camera, ICE power, FM radio and the innovative thing, the Magic Touch (touching the menu keys will give you a hump or a kind of a vibration). Samsung also displayed the SGH-F 490 with a 5 mega pixel camera, an internal memory of 130 MB, a 3.2 inches screen lens, auto focus, Google search, e-mail and a touch screen too. Also on display was a business phone SGH-i 780.
Not to be left behind, Motorola showed their Z 10 with 3.2 mega pixel camera with a flashlight, auto focus, an internal memory of 77 MB expandable up to 4GB and a sliding front panel. The company is promoting this phone as complete mini film studio, another model, E 8, is for the music lovers. It has a 3.5 mm jack support, 2 GB internal memory expandable up to 4 GB with a one touch sensitive keypad.
LG showed the KF -510 in a full metal body with a thickness of just 10.9 mm, 3 mega pixel camera with image stabilizer, an interactive and stylish touch lighting effect. LG KF -600 has got an ‘intuitive user interface’, having a dual screen on the front.
LG KS 20 is a business phone with some great features like push e-mail, Google search, Windows Internet Explorer, TV out, FM and above all a Wi-Fi connectivity.
Sony Ericsson displayed XPERIA X 1 with an arc slider design with a metal body, 3.0 inches WGA 65 k colour TFT touch display, QWERTY keypad, video recording and playback, Windows mobile operating systems, Wi-Fi, navigation and an auto focus 3.2 mega pixel camera.
The i-mate displayed its ultimate 9502 which is seen as a serious challenger to the Nokia Communicator. All the above models have one thing in common, touch screen, and will be launched in the country in two-three months’ time.
Surprisingly, Nokia did not unveil any new model, instead they were there with a new strategy, providing consumers the experience of innovative services such as navigation, convergence, imaging and gaming. Hello! Are you tuned in to the latest?
