Three’s company

Bajaj readies the Blade, Sprint and new Discover

Bajaj has revealed three of its aces for 2008. It will soon launch the Blade, a full-size and powerful 125cc automatic transmission scooter that has been built to address the needs of modern urban males. The Blade rides on relatively large 12-inch alloy rims, provides powerful-looking twin headlights and offers the convenience of front fuel filling. The self-start scooter comes with a DTS-i technology-enabled four-valve, single-cylinder engine. It also offers telescopic fork suspension and a front disc brake. Bajaj hopes the sporty Blade can corner them an added market share by injecting a dose of excitement into Indian scooters.

Bajaj is also readying the XCD Sprint, specifically moulded for the 100cc buyer who is on the lookout for something exclusive. The Sprint’s styling includes a flared-front cowl with raised-effect visor, in addition to a superbly executed tank and side panels. This new Bajaj uses a black theme to cover most of the lower part, including 17-inch rims, telescopic forks front suspension and engine. The Sprint sports a slim-look tail, with a nifty-looking rear number-plate mount and unique mud-guard. The bike is powered by a four-valve, single-cylinder and carburetted 125cc DTS-i power plant. It also deploys gas-charged rear suspension and offers a front disc brake.

Bajaj also plans to reposition the Discover with a new 150 DTS-i version. The Discover 150 will deliver more punch, yet carry lean, athletic styling with hints from the original Discover. New side panels and embedded turn-blinkers will come tank-mounted on this Bajaj. Power-packed performance will be available thanks to a self-started, CV-carburettor-equipped 150cc DTS-i enabled engine. The Discover 150 uses a single down tube frame which divides into an inverted ‘U’ section under the steering column and bolts its engine on as a stressed member. It will also offer alloy rims, gas-charged rear shock absorbers as well as a front disc brake.
