Sushi, a typical food from Japanese cuisine, is increasingly gaining popularity in India.Sushi is now served not only in starred hotels but also in stand alone restaurants.

Take Blanco, in the city’s posh Khan Market, which is currently hosting a series of food appreciation sessions called “Understanding Sushi”.

At the sessions, which will be on till the coming Saturday, one can see between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. how exactly Sushi is prepared. One can witness live sushi being rolled here.

Though sushi is still considered by many as Japanese equivalent to the Western sandwich, there is no dearth of combinations that can be created with this dish. Earlier, people had sushi with only soya sauce and the pungent sauce wasabi, but now, a whole new range of sauces and accompaniments have emerged.

New ingredients have been included in sushi making like fish sauce, basil, chilli and coconut etc.

All of this forms part of the sushi appreciation sessions.
