Golden jubilee of Signal School

A national exhibition to celebrate the golden jubilee of the Naval Signal School will be held on March7 and 8

Fatanstic Fifty The Signal School is the Centre for Naval Communication and Electronic Warfare

It’s golden jubilee time for the Signal School. What navy folks simply call the Signal School is the Centre for Naval Communication and electronic warfare, which was set up in 1958. Navy personnel from all over the country and friendly foreign countries are trained here. From 2003, it was affiliated to the Cochin University of Science and Technology and now trainees get their degrees from CUSAT, according to the Officer-in-charge, Captain MS Chandrashekhar. A national exhibition will be held as part of the jubilee celebrations on March 7 and 8. There will be 35 stalls of Multi National Companies, with whom the Navy is associated. This is the first time that such an exhibition is being held. The school has 450 students with 90 sailors and 20 officers as instructors. It is the only one of its kind in India. The exhibition is at the Naval Base, INS Venduruthy.

Communication has seen a sea of change from the days when flags and lights were used for communication. The Morse code which helped much in communication is also outdated with the advent of satellites and underwater communication.

The exhibition is open to invitees only. All those navy personnel who have retired and also who are interested in communication systems, who want to visit the show can contact 2662710 for further details.
