Dining at a star hotel is not in everybody’s reach. The cost factor does play a big part in many deciding against a visit to such a place. For another group, which cherishes traditional cuisine, the taste might not be up to the mark. If you are
one of those with a similar opinion and still would like to have food under a perfect ambience, then Carnivall is the one you are looking for.
Located on the busy Gokhale Road in Chinna Chokkikulam, this not-so-big restaurant has a plenty to offer for food lovers. “When we tried to find a feel-good place for a family to dine at an affordable cost, we were miserably placed. This ignited the spark in us to start a restaurant on our own. We were very clear that it should be a place where one can get quality food in a peaceful ambience at a cost that does not cause a dent on the purse. This gave birth to Carnivall,” says K. Ibrahim, one of the partners of the restaurant.
Success story
“Though we have stacked the menu with a wide variety of recipes, our main strength is biryani. It brings a lot of customers to our restaurant and has been part of our success story,” gushes M. Tajudeen, who manages the restaurant.
The ‘star hotel’ ambience needs a mention. The cool environs with impressive lighting arrangements attract a good number of people to this restaurant. As you scan through the interiors, the fish tank compels you to have a look. Rummaging through the menu card one can find all types of cuisines —Indian, Chinese and Tandoori. But biryani still remains close to the heart of many.
“Our biryani is distinctly different. It is less spicy. Many have told us that ours resembles that of the variety available in Dindigul. We use pure ghee for the biryani with a little refined or coconut oil,” says T. Shahul Hameed, the chef.
Special recipes
The most favoured dishes are ‘Carnivall chicken,’ ‘pepper chicken,’ ‘Madura chicken’ and tandoor varieties.
“Carnivall chicken is our special, which you cannot find anywhere. It is prepared with three different types of gravies. The ‘makhni gravy,’ onion-tomato gravy and coconut gravy are separately made and mixed in right proportion to make this unique dish, which has caught the imagination our customers, who repeatedly ask for it,” Mr. Shahul beams with pride. Besides the food varieties, the restaurant also offers fresh fruit juices, ice creams and caramel custard.
“We do accept that our customers have to wait a bit long at the dining table as the food varieties are made to order. Our recipes are prepared with quality ingredients. Hence, we get repeated visits of customers to our restaurant. We also take catering orders, though not on a massive scale,” says Mr. Tajudeen.
What started as a restaurant with limited varieties has expanded with meals on offer during lunch hours, which includes fish varieties. The restaurant remains open between 12 noon and 12 midnight.
