Siddhartha Basu is coming up with a new quiz show “Kya Aap Panchvi Pass Se Tez Hai?”

The man with questions is back with yet another quiz show, this time in the form of “Kya Aap Panchvi Pass Se Tez Hai?” Siddhartha Basu, the father of television quiz shows in India, has always enthralled audiences — from Quiz Time on DD to glammed-up versions of quizzing such as Kaun Banega Crorepati.
Either on screen with his disarming smile or off it with the interesting game formats, he picks yours brains in a fun way.
His new show will be telecast on Star Plus and will see Shah Rukh Khan back as host after a successful stint as quiz master on the third edition of KBC.
Talking about the new show, Basu says, “SRK will conduct it like a school teacher with a set of five bright 10 year-olds as classmates. Grown up contestants who come through the selection process, have to contend with a set of 11 questions, with an ascending ladder of rewards for correct answers, going up to Rs. 5 crores. He or she can avail up to three ‘cheats’ from the classmates who will also be separately answering all the questions.”
This show is largely based on the popular game show “Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?” which has been telecast in several foreign countries, some under the same title.
The first season of “Kya aap …” should be on air by the end of April and the show may also have some special episodes with celebrities participating. SRK who is said to have undergone training for KBC is now practising for this show on the computerised game play system set up at his house.
The questions on the show are derived from the syllabi of classes one to five and things that interest children of that age group. It should be exciting to watch adults racking their brains to match the intelligence of fifth graders while they choose questions from a set of subjects on the blackboard.
And what made him choose SRK as the host? “His charisma and capability as a witty, smart, charming host with a lot of affinity for the format and a special connect with kids and family.”
When asked why he is not hosting the show, the suave Basu modestly replies that he is no superstar and enjoys his role as a coach and producer. Talking about his future projects, he says, “There’s an interesting variety on the anvil!” Till then it’s time to wait and watch who really is smarter!
