Get ready to watch some fine Indian and French documentaries
|
From the festival A still from ‘Way Back Home’
It is good news for lovers of documentary films. Parallel Perspectives, the three-day festival, from March 14-16 is a joint effort of University of Hyderabad, the EFL University (formerly Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages), Alliance
Francaise of Hyderabad, Documentary Circle of Hyderabad and Anveshi Research Centre for Women’s Studies. The event will help movie-buffs to watch some of the best contemporary Indian and French docus.
The award-winning films depict new approaches adopted by the filmmakers to reveal the many-sidedness of reality. The highlight of the festival will be the presence of five of the finest documentary film-makers Amar Kanwar, Gautam Sonti, Pankaj Rishi Kumar, Surabhi Sharma and Supriyo Sen. Some of the contemporary documentary classics to be screened at the festival include: Night of Prophecy (2002), a film on protest poetry, Jahaaji Music (2007), which has pop-singer Remo Fernandes taking the viewers on a voyage to Trinidad and Jamaica, Darwin’s Nightmare (2004), William Karel’s ‘mockumentary’ Dark Side of the Moon (2002), a searing and hilarious film about the power of images, their role in politics and their influence on the viewer, Simone Bitton’s The Wall (2004) Salvador Allende (2004), Way Back Home (2003)and Gautam Sonti’s Coding Culture (2006), a bitter-sweet documentation of the lifestyles of Indian yuppies in three Bangalore-based software companies.
The organisers plan to make the event an interactive one.
The festival is open to all at both the venues. For more information, contact: Alliance Francaise of Hyderabad: 2770 07 34
