Bold and beautiful

The designer sisters Gauri and Nainika Karan are set for the big day at the Wills Lifestyle Fashion Week with their latest collection. Youth, glamour and femininity are elements of the collection. The preview, which was held last week at Ogaan, Khan Market, saw two models walk the ramp to give a glimpse of their work.

“It’s a collection of the occasional and formal wear for the fashionable ladies in town,” says Nainika. The fabrics like duchesse satin and stiff silk have been folded, pleated, darted, draped and ballooned by the designers to lend a sculpture-like and sensuous feminine look. Sharp tailoring to achieve high glamour was the focus of the collection. With a strong emphasis on fabric, cut and colour, the designs have flattering silhouettes.

While one model was wearing a knee-length dress in dark hues of magenta and black, the other wore a shirt dress with an overlapping velvet lower body and wasp waist, reminiscent of the 50s’ Hollywood look. The sisters, who are influenced by the classic romantic Hollywood movies, are not only fans of European art, music, books but are also inspired by the photos of their mother from the ‘70s.

The collection is meant for those who like to dress up and look attractive. Rejoicing feminism and having a personality to match the wardrobe is the genesis of these designs.
