Fashion designers and accessory designers are all set for the WIFW

A model flaunting Amrapali jewellery
Black seems to be the colour of the season. While popular designers Wendell Rodericks and Mandira Wirk have already presented their collections, upcoming designer Gaurav Gupta joined them with a preview of his Autumn/ Winter collection in New Delhi r
ecently.
Unlike many others, Gaurav’s collection is not of complete black. Twenty models are likely to walk the ramp draped in his creations. He has opted for neutral expressions like moss grey, steel grey, midnight and royal blue and lavender grey. All these hues will be on display at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week where 55 new dresses will be showcased.
Gaurav has used flat chiffons, georgettes, satins and jerseys in his apparel. His collection comprises midis, single-piece suits, draped trousers, evening jackets and a voluminous top. He has used pleats in a predominant fashion and also done top-up work with fabric embroidery and architectural lines. He claims that his clothes are complicated creations needing specialised work. Says Gaurav, “It takes a lot of effort, expenses are very high, a lot of research has to be done.” However, Gaurav reveals that now it is not just the elite that can aspire to buy his label. He feels more and more people are ready to cough up the extra amount for designer fare. He has a refreshing new range of apparel, which is more affordable. “I have a second range of clothes beginning at Rs.2500,” he points out.
Ornamental style
As Gaurav Gupta and other fashion designers flaunt their creations at the WIFW, jewellery designers aren’t far behind either.
Keeping people interested in the new trends is Amrapali, which is busy designing new styles of jewellery, keeping in mind the colours of the season and the latest fashions. The new favourites this season are the more vivid colours such as bright red, deep blue, violet and bright yellows.
Designer Suman Khanna says, “A lot of thought has been put into it.” According to her, the jewellery should complement the dress. The collection was classified in five categories – Kaleidoscope, Juxta Pose, DéjÀ vu, Aureole and Femme Fatale.
This is the sixth time that Amrapali is participating in the WIFW. Their range of jewellery includes necklaces, bangles, gold cuffs, earrings, finger rings and also hair ornaments. The designs are mostly ethnic combined with some modern designs. The metal used is silver and gold with precious and semi-precious stones such as garnet, onyx, topaz etc. The stones with their bright colours are manufactured at Amrapali’s Jaipur factory.
Rajiv Arora and Rajesh Ajmera started Amrapali nearly 28 years back. Now the store has jewellery for every occasion, covering a wide segment of buyers in every age group. A 94-year-young lady is a regular customer at the store. One can purchase a good pair of earrings from Amrapali’s Khan Market Store in Delhi, at a price of Rs.250.
