FASHION

Sheer and shimmer Fashion

Designer Chaitanya Rao looks at what works this season

FOR WOMEN: This season, the look is feminine. There’s a lot of volume happening with layers and sheer fabrics doing the trick. Texturing is in.

Designers are into major experiments with textures to give the garments interesting looks without getting too much into embellishment. A touch of shimmer is fine but don’t overdo.

Fashion will draw heavily from art. We are already seeing canvas-inspired splashes of hues on garments.

While skinny jeans are in, trousers are getting a little flared. And those who didn’t like the low-waist trend have reason to smile.

This season is about high-waist trousers. Dresses continue to hold sway with varied hemlines. And guess what? Drop-waist maxis are in.

The silhouette is loose, unlike the form-fitting Western red-carpet gown. Patent leather trims add accent to luxury labels.

As for colours, yellow is haute. But the season will also see a mixed palette ranging from pale hues to solid shades. Belts and textured bags and clutches are big on the accessories front.

FOR MEN: The men’s wardrobe this season is getting more body-conscious.

Structured shirts and slim-fit trousers and jeans are hot this season.

What’s interesting is the fact that we will be seeing patterns on trousers instead of the usual plain ones. It’s a graphic, bold look.

And another highlight is bling.

Yes, men’s evening wear is about sequins but I only hope they don’t outdo women on this front!
