Theatre seminar In the city

‘Representations,’ will be held on March 16 and 17
|
Nireeksha, a women’s theatre group, is holding ‘Representations,’ a series of seminars and discussions that will debate the imaging of women in different art forms. The inaugural program of this series is the study of such imaging in theatre.
A seminar on ‘The Concept of Nayika and Nati in the context of Malayalam Theatre’ discusses the traditional concept of the Nayika as conceived in Natyasastra and other traditional texts vis-À-vis Koodiyattom and Nangiarkoothu up to the early Sangeeta Natakams leading to the Malayalam dramas of the fifties to the experimental plays of today.
The other topics that will discussed as part of the seminar include ‘Actress and the history of Malayalam theatre,’ ‘Nati as Sutradhar,’ ‘Actress as the Nayaka,’ and ‘Contemporary theatre and the male gaze,’ to name a few.
There will also be a panel discussion addressing the question of female actors in contemporary Malayalam theatre.
The programme will be held at Adhypaka Bhavan, in the city on March 16 and 17.
