Festival Try authentic Asian flavours without getting a visa
|
A crowded market of Bangkok, a polished mall of Tokyo or a busy street of Beijing, all of them can be experienced now in Delhi’s Shangri-La Hotel. It recently launched its Street Food Festival in the restaurant 19th Oriental Avenue. Though the
festival largely serves exquisite fish, chicken, meat and pork dishes, modest amounts of vegetarian food are also available. Food straight from the streets of the Szechwan province, China is now in vogue. Ma La Tang a Chinese street food that is a combination of skewered vegetables, garlic and deep fried tofu in sesame oil has already won laurels amongst Indian foodies.
Chinese Chef Wang Bing adds vegetable stalk to provide a juicy pungency. The savvy Japanese Chef Hiroyuki provides a kaleidoscopic variety of Japanese street food that surely carries his homeland’s flavour. The Japanese pancake Okonomiyaki, made of traditional Japanese fried cake filled with cabbage and pork or eggs topped with bonito flakes and teriyaki sauce served with mayonnaise melts in the mouth. A must have is the Satays which is a combination of skewered marinated meat in curry spices grilled over charcoal, like the Indian Tandoor. But it’s served with peanut sauce and is an absolute delight that transports you to the Thailand streets without a visa!
