My Kind of Place -- Dev Anand

Real take

Life cannot be lived like a celluloid dream sequence. It is best to see it in black white — clearly and honestly. Everything I do, I do with a purpose. Acting, production, direction, writing or even travel, nothing happens just like that for me. Which means, I enjoy what I am doing and live the moment.

Beauty all around

There is no best, second best or a bad place, if you ask me. The same sky, the same stars, the same earth, the same trees…and you will realise there is beauty everywhere. Maybe some places are greener, have more breeze, more flowers and are cleaner.

On the go

Camera or no camera, lights or no lights…action has to be there. Since my acting days, I have loved being on the move and meeting people. It was great fun to go on outdoor shoots. But I wanted to travel for the sake of seeing places. Once I started making good money in films, I travelled extensively around Europe. Stopping and spending enough time to admire the uniqueness of each place — Denmark, Scotland, Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain — on this continent. Europe like India has so much to offer in terms of culture, language, history and costumes. I have also made several trips to pulsating New York. The city fills me with vigour to face life head-on. India, of course, I am connected to by birth. So I have an unflinching attachment for the country and its warm people.

Travel…

It opens your mind and eye. And you learn to look at the brighter side of life.
