There were 95,200 Indian visitors to Australia in 2007

Everybody is aware of the many beautiful aspects of Australia but not many would know that there has been big increase in the number of Indians visiting Australia.

Last year, the country had 95,200 Indian visitors, an increase of 14 per cent over 2006. India continues to be one of the top 15 inbound markets for arrivals in Australia, with a forecasted average growth of 17 per cent. Tourism Forecasting Council (Australia) indicates 113,000 visitors from India by the end of 2008.

Maggie White, General Manager, South, South East Asia and Gulf Countries, Tourism Australia said, “We are excited with the growth and will continue to make efforts on increasing awareness about Australia as a destination and the myriad experiences that we have to offer Indian consumers.”

Of the total arrivals of visitors from India in 2007, a significant growth was noted in holiday traffic (23,822), visiting friends and relatives (20,914), business (24,922), education (10,333), employment (7,269) and others (7,951). Nearly 61 per cent are first-time visitors.
