Collage of colours Works of five artists are on show
Another space for art has opened in a ‘Splash of Colours’, the inaugural show at Madonna Contemporary Art Gallery, Jew Town. It is indeed a splash of colours as it features the works of five artists, AN Narayanan, NB Latha Devi, Gireesan
Bhattathiripad, MA Venu and Bijoy Velekkatte. A group show has variety and a number of themes and subjects are interpreted differently, each being the artist’s individual take on the subject. Here too artistic interpretations find a comprehensive collage of colours. The gallery space is great, natural light flooding the space.
Eye catching
There are 24 works on display, most works having some Kerala influence. A work by artist AN Narayanan on the stairway is eye-catching for the use of different technique with surface additions. His ‘Protest For Reality’, acrylic on canvas, has a raging bull in protest. Latha Devi’s series of works, ‘Illumination’ will hold you by their sheer conceptual strength and use deft use of colours. MA Venu’s works have gentleness about them in the use of greens and blues. Venu has worked a a director in films too. Gireesan Bhattathiripad, also from Thrissur presently works as an art teacher. His ‘Inner Faces’, is a maze of expressions and is a work in acrylic. Bijoy Velekkatte’s works reveal that the artist is experimenting in each canvas. In two blue canvases he paints an urban skyline while the other is a full of trees, leaves and greenery in blue. The show is on till March 22.
