Bloody Cause

Haemophilia is a sex-linked hereditary disease that leads to delayed clotting of blood. While it leads to haemorrhaging, it is possible to lead a normal life. To study the causes and treatment, Society for Haemophilia Care (SHC) and AIIMS, New Delhi, recently organised SHC India-AIIMS Haemophilia Conference. More than 350 delegates from across the country attended this conference.

The Laboratory Workshop on haemophilia diagnosis was an important part of the programme. 26 doctors received training here.

“SHC India is focused on strengthening the cause of persons with haemophilia in the country,” said Vijay Kaul, Executive Director. “Management of haemophilia is possible and the affected person can lead a near normal life if treatment is provided,” said Dr. Chandy of CMC, Vellore.

SHC India has instituted the Frank Schnabel Haemophilia Awards.

These will be presented annually to those who have been working for the cause of haemophilia. Five such persons were awarded.
