True celebration
A painting by Sujit Akre, one of the show participants
Art curator Lovy Singh recently organised an exhibition by women painters, “Celebrating Womanhood”, at Lalit Kala Akademi. Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit inaugurated the exhibition. Aligning herself with the fraternity of art lovers, she said, “It is a bold and courageous attempt by the artists. It is an encouragement to all artists and art viewers like me.” Lovy Singh feels the exhibition opens economical gateways to budding young artists as their paintings are exhibited along with the creations of established and popular artists.
Sculptor Sigrun Srivastava gives polyester resin an unusual dimension. The play of light and shade within the sculptures gives her works an ethereal quality. Priti Verma’s paintings portray the feminine figure as the protagonist providing a dramatic effect on acrylic. Not only painters but French photographer Berenice Ellena once again proves her expertise. Young artists like Meghna Oberoi show their inimitable skill on acrylic. The exhibition not only included Indian youngsters but also a number of foreign artists. “The exhibition is an exposure to the voice of Indian women,” said chief guest Shanno Khurana.
