An assortment Of Indian delicacies

If Italy is about the quaint gondolas of Venice, then India ought to be about the splendid Taj. So, you find the world’s most magnificent tomb as a black-and-white picture, on the menu. Little Indian, a vegetarian restaurant, was recently opened behind Little Italy on Trichy Road.

Classy interiors

The interior is minimalist yet classy. The walls are off-white (close to yellow, actually) with a few framed pictures, while the ceiling sports a dash of orange and a few hanging lamps. As for the furniture, they are black and of steel. On the corners you find a couple of sofas resembling a colourful barcode!

Now, for the food. Picking out your refreshers and shorba (the soups) is easy. What will be tough, though, will be the kebabs. They have lined up 10 of them from the Cheese tandoori aloo gobi to the Assorted tandoori platter, veggies marinated in tandoori masala, and grilled. We tried the delicious Aloo ke sholay, the soft Aatishi paneer, Makai malai sheekh, which has a surprise coconut flavour and the Subz sheekh gilafeh, an assortment of minced vegetables with a hint of onion, tomato and capsicum. Prices start at Rs. 110.

If choosing the kebabs was tough, the curries get tougher. For a basket of rotiyan there are over 15 curries to choose from (prices start at Rs. 100).

We tried the Ajwaini paratha with paneer maskewala and subz diwani handi. They tasted out-of-the-world, and left us wanting more. After Zaffrani biryani we polished off gulab jamuns for dessert. You have plenty to select from, be it the rice or the tandoori breads . So, what is your weekend eating spot going be?

Little Indian is open between noon and 3.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. and midnight. For details, call the restaurant at 0422 - 4529229.
