Early to school

In a much-awaited measure to try and combat Bangalore’s traffic woes, a proposal has been made to change school timings. Earlier, parents and teachers protested against the proposed revised timings, complaining of schedule management. But, the education department feels enough is enough, and that if traffic can be eased, it has to come from little sacrifices that parents, teachers and students have to make for their city.

According to the proposal, from the new academic year, all aided and private schools who follow the ICSE and CBSE boards should function from 8.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. and all government schools within the limits of the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The officials who revised the rules said that these new timings will not only mean getting to schools faster than before, but it would also mean less congestion on the roads during the morning peak hours from 8.45 a.m. to 10.30 a.m.

While parents should realise this effort is not only a welcome means to ease traffic for both themselves and others, the new timings will also mean more time on hand for their children as schools will finish earlier. Isn’t it a pleasure to start the day early and finish early too?

The new timings are good.

But my school in any case starts from 8.30 a.m. But it will definitely ease traffic on the roads as other schools will have to follow these timings. Children will be able to study better now.

The new timings will make a huge difference for children, parents and traffic.

Not only will children not be late for schools, they will also be able to approach classes and studies with a fresh mind as it’s always better to start the day early.

Peak hour timings in the morning will see a lot less traffic on the roads now everywhere in the city. It might prove to be complicated for parents of school-going children who have to go to work later, but it will make a lot of difference on the roads.

With the new timings, there will be separate rush hours on the road. So, both parents and children will be less hassled and will have more time to get to school and work.

It is a welcome move.
