Lace, the ultimate wispy, buoyant ode to femininity makes a comeback on ramps across the globe

If you’ve tucked away your gorgeous peach lace sari in some dark corner of your wardrobe, fashion experts tell us it is time to bring it out again.
It was at the recent Milan Fashion Week that lace made a huge comeback and will continue to be a hot favourite this season.
“Lace seemed to have dropped out of the haute list a few years ago. Now it’s made a comeback. The associations lace brings are femininity and delicacy. Lace will be a popular choice for a long time to come,” says apparel store owner Sangeetha S.
“The most appealing aspect of wearing lacy outfits is that the material itself isn’t limited to a particular age group. Be it a sober salwar kameez with a ravishing lace dupatta or even a simple lacy dress, women of all ages are spoilt for choice,” says fashion designing student Karuna Rampal.
According to fashion designer Ameetha Mathew, “Lace is best known for its evening wear elegance. It can be used on almost any material. In India, lace is now seen as attached borders on saris.”
For the pretty young things, gorgeous lace crossover camisoles, especially in black and pastel colours look beautiful.
Lace trim tops in shades such as deep purple and mauve will soon be in demand, predict fashion experts. Leggings with lace trims have already made it big in the fashion world. While lace was generally used on frocks for little girls, today, women have so much more use for it.
Says Shilpa Kumar Dass, a dance trainer, “Lace spaghetti tops and lace trim knee-length skirts are the best picks this season.”
The lace-and-tulle slip dresses attracted much attention at the New York Fashion Week and in spite of tulle and organza being popular choices for gowns and veils, lace will provide stiff competition.
As far as bridal ensembles are concerned, “Lace gloves are the perfect choice,” says Sangeetha.
Trimmed ecru lace and ribbon are often used for the ring bearer pillow and the elegant flower baskets.
“One cannot say lace went completely out of fashion, what with sensual lacy lingerie being the rage all over the world. Also, one can not ignore the cute lace pajamas and maternity gowns."
Lacy outfits though not restricted to a particular age group, look good on slim frames. So, it’s time for a light and lacy look.
