I’ve been getting blackheads for the past six months. Is there herbal treatment for it? - Shweta
Blackheads occur on oily areas of the skin. The use of facial scrubs helps. You can either buy a ready-to-use scrub or mix rice powder with rose water and it apply daily on the blackhead prone areas. Rub gently with tiny circular movements. Leave it on for a few minutes, before washing it off with water. You can also make a paste of baking soda and water and apply it daily only on the affected area. Wash it off after 15 minutes.
The areas of my feet that are covered by sandals are fair, while the exposed areas are tanned. I have dry skin. What kind of sunscreen should I use? Will applying sun screen remove the tan from my legs? — Uma
Rub lemon piece daily on the dark areas of your feet. Wash it off and then apply til oil, massaging it into the skin. Sunscreen does not remove tan. It protects the skin from damage caused by the sun’s UV rays. If you stay out in the sun for long, then apply a sunscreen with a high SPF of 30 and above. The SPF is related to the duration of protection. Apply it 20 minutes before sun-exposure. It should be applied on the face and gently rubbed into the skin so that it is absorbed.
How can I decide what type of skin I have? — Shalini
The feel and look of your skin is a good indicator of your skin type. When you wake up in the morning, wipe your face with a tissue, before washing or cleansing it. If the tissue is clean, you have normal to dry skin. If the tissue gets stained or greasy, you have normal to oily skin. Use different tissues for different areas, wiping the forehead, nose and chin with one tissue and using another to wipe the cheeks. This will help determine if you have combination skin.
Suggest home remedies for dark patches on the face. — Amina
Apply a sunscreen with a high SPF before going out in the sun. Mix rice powder with curd and use it as a facial scrub twice a week. Apply it only on the dark patches, rubbing it gently with tiny circular movements. Leave it on for a few minutes, before washing it off with water. Mix honey and lemon juice in equal quantities and apply it daily only on the dark patches. Wash it off after 15 minutes with plain water. Twice a week, apply a face mask. Mix 3 tsp of oatmeal with one tsp each of honey, curd and lemon juice or egg white. Apply it on the entire face, avoiding the lips and the area around the eyes. Wash it off after half an hour.
