Check out the new Boomerang outlet for some gelatos

Scoops of delight At Boomerang

We waited for around 10 minutes for Rodrigo Florim, the ice-cream maker from Italy. It was worth it. His English was fun to listen to: it had a delightful Italiano flavour to it, just like the gelatos we were to have soon!

A new outlet of Boomerang was recently opened in R.S. Puram, and the attraction of the joint is the gelatos. So, Rodrigo explained to us what a gelato was. We carefully listen to the Italian as he explained how gelatos are different.

Gelatos have more air content, more flavour, are colder than ice-creams, and have less fat. They are much fresher, for they have to be made every day!

It’s tasting time, and we make a dash for the gelatos. After a slight confusion on which flavour to choose, we settled for the Cookies.

Choco suprise

And, were we glad! As the ice-cream melts you are left with tiny slabs of chocolate. Bite into them, and you have a surprise: the crunch of the cookies. Another surprise is the Lime Cheese Cake. There’s something in the ice-cream that won’t melt: the tiny cubes of lemon peel! Limetta is again lemony, and is a sorbet (a form of gelato), but with a strong and tart after taste.

A personal favourite is Menta: mint with oodles of chocolate. May we recommend it for a romantic evening? Others you could try are Malaga (raisins), Nocciola (hazelnut) and Stracciatella magnum (vanilla and chocolate). There are also sugar-free options, including the toppings. If Rodrigo is to be believed, the ice-creams are egg-less and, 100 per cent vegetarian. The most interesting part of the outlet is the cold stone creamery: the customer can choose what goes into their cups of sin. With tiny glittering chips winking at you, the black slab is your platform for unadulterated indulgence. Demand that a handful of raisins, caramel, sliced almonds, grated pistachios, biscuits and chocolates be added to the already wicked mound of your favourite gelato!

Rodrigo had said that the secret to an ice-cream lay in its base. But, as we wolfed down one flavour after another, all we knew was, someone out there was magically churning out uber-delicious ice-creams! The outlet is opposite Spencer’s Daily, off DB Road. Prices start at Rs. 40.
