Tangy eats Varieties of chaats at Anandalakshmy

Chaat has always been a weakness for me. Bhel puris, Sev puris, pani puris… the list of my chaat favourites are endless. However, finding a restaurant which serves that right mix of ingredients that makes up a chaat dish is difficult. It wasn&# 8217;t without hesitation that I ordered Bhel puri and Papdi chaat at Anandalakshmy a new entrant into the restaurant industry.

The proprietor, Suresh, assures me that their chaat is authentic. “We have brought down a chef from Madhya Pradesh especially for this,” he says.

As Ice Cream Soda is an in-house speciality of the restaurant, I decide to try one. While I expected a fizzy drink with a scoop of ice cream on top, I was pleasantly surprised. The ice cream soda at Anandalakshmy is a fizzy drink, but, without the ice cream. The drink has a smooth interesting vanilla-like flavour to it.

As I wait for the chaats to arrive I take a look at the menu. A pure vegetarian restaurant, Anandalakshmy has an interesting mix in its menu. Apart from South Indian dishes, the joint also offers an array of Chinese and North Indian dishes which are reasonably priced.

Lunch at Anandalakshmy, says Suresh is a grand affair. “It is home-cooked and brought to the restaurant. It is like having a mini-wedding sadhya as it has katoris of typical Keralean-style vegetable dishes, rice and payasam.”

However, as many regular clienteles are complaining that the heavy lunch leaves them groggy at work, Suresh is planning to introduce an Executive Lunch which has a variety of paratha, flavoured rice, a small helping of curd, rice, kurma, salad and a dry vegetable dish.

Light meals

Those who prefer light meals can choose from sizzling hot dosas to lightly spiced dahi vadas. “We will be adding varieties of dosas such as paneer dosa and mushroom dosa to the menu soon,” says Suresh.

While Chopsuey, Sliced vegetables with cashew and Chilly gobi are some of the dishes available a la Chinese, Channa-battoora, Dal fry and Paneer butter masala are the varieties of dishes available in the North Indian section.

The chaats arrive and I dig in. “It’s authentic,” I announce as I polish off the tangy bhel puri and the crunchy, hot and sweet papdi chaat with gusto.

A masala tea completes my meal. Spicy and strong, it is invigorating and is a definite must try especially on a rainy day.

The décor at Anandalakshmy is simple yet cosy. The ample car parking space is a highlight of the restaurant. The in-house music is mostly Hindi oldies and Carnatic classics.
