Shemaroo, Rs.99 (DVD)
This is perhaps for the first time that a two-hour DVD compilation has been brought out. Shemaroo has 25 songs in this album. The DVD opens with ‘Yeh Desh Hai Veer Jawanon Ka’ from Naya Daur, from O.P. Nayyar.
There is another hit from the same film ‘Saathi Haath Badhana’, which brought out the tremendous range of Asha Bhonsle. Other famous songs include Mukesh’s ‘Honthon Pe Sachai Rehti’, in Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai, (music by Shanker Jaikishen) ‘Manna Dey’s ‘Aye Mere Pyare Watan’ from Kabuliwala ( music by Salil Chowdhury) Rafi’s ‘Apni Azaadi Ko Hum’ from Leader, (music by Naushad Ali, Mahendra Kapoor’s ‘Jaagega Insaan Zamana Jaagega’ from Aadmi aur Insaan’, (music by Ravi) Mukesh’s ‘Chodo Kal Ki Baatein’ from Hum Hindustan
i (music by Usha Khanna).
Sadly, Shemaroo has forgotten many of the more famous patriotic songs . One unpardonable miss is Mohammed Rafi’s “Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyon” from Haqeeqat, (music by the Madan Mohan Kohli). Others missing are “Nanna Munna Raahi Hoon” from Son of India, (music score by Naushad Ali), Mahendra Kapoor’s “Mere Desh Ki Dharti” from Upkar, (Kalyanji Anandji), “Pagdi Sambhal Jatta” from Shaheed, “Hai Preet Yahan Ki Reet Sada” from Purab aur Paschim.
