Musical montage

Evenings of classical and contemporary music by the MMA choir

Aficionados of choral music are in for a treat this weekend, courtesy the Madras Musical Association choir. In aid of the Rural Child Development Project of the Hindustan Bible Institute, the MMA will present its 60-strong choir in a two-day concert — a tapestry of classical and contemporary music titled “Musical Montage” — at New Calvary Church on the campus of the Hindustan Bible Institute at Kellys on March 28 and 29, 7 p.m.

With the accent on Baroque, Classical and Romantic compositions, the new music director of the MMA, Augustine Paul, has compiled this concert to suit all tastes. The performance will not only include the works of Handel, Bach, Mozart and Mendelssohn, but also a generous sprinkling of country music, spirituals, compositions from the Beatles and Broadway, including the Easter favourite — Stephen Adam’s Holy City.

The highlights of the concert will be Mozart’s “Coronation Mass”, Mendelssohn’s “Hear My Prayer”, Cottrell’s “Sanctuary” and Rogers and Hammerstein’s medley from “The Sound of Music”.

Donor passes are available at the Musee Musical (Mount Road), Pro Music (Egmore), Shruthi Musicals (Kellys), the Hindustan Bible Institute and with members of the MMA choir.

For tickets, call 98402 03501, 98412 24542 , and 98412 12967.
